Following the sonoga pedagogy, our teaching is based on four interdependent pillars, which are always a part of every class.
Weeks are organized around these pillars, each focusing on a different one. This allows students to concentrate on one pillar at a time and master the tools needed to develop them.
In each class, students work on what they want to perform (songs, texts, etc.) while learning to identify and master the broad range of tools at their disposal, working along a path that leads to independence.
Each student progresses by observing how, why and with what they are progressing.
The process is rigorous and its results rest on solid foundations, aiding creativity and enhancing every aspect of the student’s life.
- Body (voice – vocal technique)
- Language (specific to music or theatre)
- Project that brings together teachers and students (the goal: song, monologue, lines, etc.)
Throughout the year, teachers are assessed by the management team, who regularly sit in on classes. This strengthens team cohesion and ensures teaching methods are followed correctly.
Students are assessed based on five aspects of learning and acquisition. These are the capacity to:
- Receive and listen
- Practice and learn
- Master and understand
- Learn to do things alone, to be independent
- Communicate, perform, create, compose, etc.
Between students and teachers, the principle of assessment and self-assessment is applied in a spirit of dialogue and reciprocity that encourages co-creativity and offers each student a path along which to progress.
Improvisation is at the heart of our teaching throughout the year, notably through the practice of the Sonoga circle which brings together the four pillars.
